This was the first time I ate this khatte aloo recipe from my grandmother’s hands, when I went to her place during winter holidays in my childhood.
Since then till today, whenever I have to make something quick and tasty, “khatte aloo” is the first thing that comes to my mind. This is not just a recipe, it is a memory – a nostalgia.

Step-by-Step Recipe – Easy Recipe to Make Khatte Aloo
Step 1: First of all, we will take 4 to 5 medium boiled potatoes and cut them into four pieces. We do not have to cut them too much, just cut them into four pieces.


Step 2: Now we will add seasoning to fry it. So for seasoning, we will place a pan on the gas and heat the pan by setting the flame to medium.

Step 3: After the pan gets heated, we will add 2 tsp mustard oil in it and heat it well so that the rawness of the mustard oil goes away so that the rawness of the oil does not come in sour potatoes.

Step 4: After the oil gets heated, we will put 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds in it and also add 1/2 teaspoon of mustard seeds and crackle them both nicely.
After crackling them both, we will put 10 to 15 curry leaves in it and also we will chop 1 green chilli and add it. After adding both, we will put 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste and also add 1/2 teaspoon of tamarind paste.



Step 5 : After adding the tamarind paste, we will add some sugar to it so that it balances the tamarind added in it. So after adding all this, we will mix it and add some hot water to it and cook it for 2 to 3 minutes so that the rawness of the tamarind goes away.t


Step 6 : After cooking it for 2-3 minutes, we will add spices to it. We will add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder, 1/4 tsp garam masala powder, 1/2 tsp coriander powder and 1/2 tsp chaat masala.
In the last, we will add some black salt and some white salt and mix it well and add some hot water and cook this for 3 to 4 minutes on high flame.





Step 7 : So after cooking the masala for 3 to 4 minutes, we will add the potatoes which are cut into four pieces, mix them and cook them for 3 to 4 minutes so that they do not become crispy because these sour potatoes are not crispy.

If you like extra sourness, you can add a little lemon juice.
