Matar ka chola is not only rich in flavour, but is also very healthy – as it contains essential nutrients like protein, fibre and iron.

In this article, we will learn how to make this traditional yet popular dish easily at home – desi style, without any hassle.

Step by Step to make white matar chhola

How to make matar ka chola, we will make it in a simple way

So first of all we will take 250 grams of white peas and put it in a pressure cooker. After putting the peas in the cooker, we will now put 4 cups of water in it so that our peas get immersed properly.

After putting water, we will put 2 big cardamoms and 2 cinnamon sticks in it and also add 1 teaspoon turmeric powder so that the color of our white

peas becomes yellow and our peas get a good flavor from cardamom and cinnamon.

Now after putting all the ingredients, we will put the lid of this cooker and let it whistle 5 times so that our peas get boiled properly and the aroma of cardamom and cinnamon also comes in it.

So now after 5 whistles, we will take our pressure cooker off the gas and we will take out the gas that is filled in the cooker.

Now we have also removed the gas. Now after opening the lid of the cooker, we will take out the boiled peas from it. We will take it out in a bowl and keep the water aside so that it can be used in making gravy

So our peas have boiled well, now we will cook it with spices, so first of all we prepare the masala

To prepare the masala, we will place a pan on the gas and heat it a little. After the pan gets heated a little, we will add 4 teaspoons of mustard oil in it

After adding mustard oil, we will add 1 bay leaf and 2 teaspoons of cumin seeds and 1 teaspoon of mustard seeds and mix it for 1 minute

After mixing for 1 minute, we will add 1 teaspoon of fennel and 3 large size chopped onions and 3 large size chopped tomatoes and also cut and add 2 green chillies and mix everything and fry for 4 minutes so that our onion and tomato get cooked well

After that we will add spices to it. If you add spices along with onion and tomato then our onion may taste raw, that is why you should fry it for 4 minutes or you can fry it for more than 4 minutes.

So now we have fried onion and tomato for 4 minutes and our onion and tomato have cooked a little, so now we will add our spices one by one.

So first of all we will add 3 tsp green chilli and ginger paste and mix it. Then we will add 2 tsp red chilli powder and 1/2 garam masala powder and 1/2 cumin powder. Now we will also add 1/2 ghaniya powder so that it tastes good. Now we will also add 1/2 chaat masala. By adding chaat masala, it gives a very good aroma of chaat.

Now we will add 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli and 1/2 kasturi methi and mix everything well once. Mix well. After this we will add the boiled peas water in it and add salt according to taste and mix it well.

After mixing it well, we will cover it and cook it for 15 minutes on medium flame so that all the spices mix together and give a good taste.

Now our gravy has cooked for 15 minutes, so we will remove the lid and see, you keep checking it in between, now our gravy is cooked well.

Now we will add our boiled peas in it and mix it well, cover it again and cook for 7 minutes, you can cook according to your quantity.

So now our peas have also cooked with the gravy for 7 minutes, so now we will remove the lid and see, our peas have mixed well with the gravy and have cooked. Our gravy should neither be too thick nor too thin.

If your gravy is thin or fine, then you can add water to it. Add some cornflower and make it thin and if it is thick then add some cornflower and make it fine

So our gravy is neither thick nor thin, now our matar chola is ready, now we will garnish it with chopped corianderNow our matar chola is ready to be served, so now we serve it
